We strive to share the good news of God’s love with all God’s people through study, worship, and service.
Christ United Church of Christ began in 1828 as Christ Reformed Church. Both the Lutheran and Reformed churches held services in the Jefferson school house until about 1830, when they jointly built St. Emmanuel’s Church, which served both congregations as a union church. This church lasted until 1883 when it was torn down. The Reformed congregation then purchased a lot on Baltimore Street, and a new church for their needs was built for $3,500.
Improvements followed in 1913, including a new steeple and cement stairs leading into the building. Later, a new pipe organ was added, as well as a cracked bell replaced.
In 1953, the church celebrated 125 years. A few years later, the church was enlarged with a new sanctuary and additional Sunday school space. In 1957, the church become a part of the United Church of Christ.
